Questions
Here’s a True/False quiz
for you to try when you feel
like taking a break from
raking the leaves in your yard.
It just happens to pertain
to such loose impediments
that you might encounter at
various locations on the golf
course. “Leave” it to you to
get them all right!
1. After putting your ball
from the putting green, your
ball in motion is deflected
into the hole by a leaf being
blown across the green by
the wind. It’s your lucky
day because wind is not an
outside agency so your ball is
considered holed!
2. In the process of
taking a practice swing under
a tree, you accidentally
knock down one or more
leaves. Regardless of how
many leaves you have
dislodged, you are penalized
for improving the area of
your intended swing.
3. You are contemplating
putting through a greenside
bunker. You are permitted
to walk into, and remove a
leaf from, the bunker.
4. Playing early in the
morning with dew still on
the ground, you discover that

there is a wet leaf clinging to
your ball in the middle of the
fairway. You are permitted
to remove the leaf.
5. Unbeknownst
to
another player who is about
to putt, a large leaf lands on
the green near the hole. The
player putts and, while his
ball is in motion, you hurry
over and pick up the leaf so
that his ball is not deflected
by the loose impediment.
Props for you for being a
Good Samaritan!
6. Your ball comes to
rest in a pristine bunker. As
you are walking towards the
bunker, a wind-blown leaf
comes to rest near your ball.
In this particular case, you
are permitted to remove the
leaf because it was not there
when your ball came to rest.
7. Your ball comes to
rest in a bunker under a leaf.
Your ball is visible from the
side, but not when you take
your stance. In this case, you
are permitted to remove the
leaf so that you can see your
ball when making your next
stroke.
1. False. As explained
in Decision 18-1/6 [Ball
