Team Mississippi Hosts Junior River Cup
Diamondhead – This year’s
Junior River Cup was held at
Diamondhead Country Club. The
weather for the weekend could
not have been any more perfect.
The Junior River Cup is similar to
the Ryder Cup, except it is Team
Mississippi versus Team Louisiana.
The past five years, Mississippi has
brought home the trophy. However,
Team Louisiana came to play.
Day one of the Junior River Cup
consisted of two rounds, Fourball
and Alternate shot. The results
from the Fourball round was 10-0
and from Alternate Shot was 9-1,
both for Louisiana.
But things turned around
for Team Mississippi on Day
Two with the Singles Matches.
Katelynn Altese aced Hole #4 on
Diamondhead’s Cardinal Course!.
And several of the Mississippi
players had success in their matches,
such as Tate Dickerson (7 & 5), Jake
Crosson (2 & 1), Walker Gibens (1
up), Will Marble (2 up), Presley
Baggett (3 & 2), Jacob Germany (2
& 1) and Hayes Smith (All Square).
In the end, Team Louisiana
came out victorious, beating Team
Mississippi 32 1/2 to 7 1/2.
MGA officials said they were
proud of participants and thanked
Chris Altese and everyone at
Diamondhead Country Club
for hosting this event. They are
looking forward to some great
competition at next year’s event
over in Louisiana territory.
