Cooper , Humphries win LGA Senior 4-ball Championship

30
Like the Tour Championship at East Lake , the 2016 LGA Senior Four-Ball Championship at Lake Charles Country Club needed a playoff on Sunday to determine a winner .
Bob Cooper and Stan Humphries of Monroe started the day with a three shot lead over Bill Stevens and Doug Quienalty of Lake Charles and ended the day with the win . Cooper and Humphries shot a 65 while Stevens and Quienalty fired a blistering 62 , the low round of the Championship , and both teams were tied for the lead at 16-under par 128 .
A sudden death playoff commenced on the par 4 15th hole ( 425 yards ), which was statistically the toughest hole of the Championship , boasting a scoring average of 4.63 . Stevens made a 15 foot putt for par and Cooper and Humphries both missed birdie putts inside 20 feet . The par 3 16th hole was next , and it was playing
156 yards over water to a back right hole location . Humphries hit a 9-iron to about 8 feet , and drained to putt for birdie to win .
Cooper and Humphries both hail from Monroe , Louisiana , and are members of Bayou DeSiard Country Club . This is Cooper ’ s fourth LGA Championship . He won the Senior Amateur in 2007 and 2010 , and he captured the 2013 LGA Senior Four-Ball with partner Eddie Lyons of Shreveport .
This is Humphries ’ s first LGA Championship , but he is no stranger to competition . Humphries is a former NFL quarterback , having played for the Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers from 1988-1997 . He has been a mainstay in the top 20 at the LGA Mid-Amateur and Senior Amateur Championships .
The LGA also conducted a concurrent Super Senior 4-Ball Championship for competitors who are 65 years of age and older . Frank Brame of Alexandria and Corky Yates of Pineville won the Super Senior division after firing bookend 66s and finishing at 12-under par 132 . Brame and Yates are both former members of the LGA Board of Directors and members at OakWing Golf Club in Alexandria .
Glenn Granger and Ben Holcombe , both of Sulphur , finished runner-up in the Super Senior division . They shot a final round 64 , the low in the Super Seniors , to finish at 11-under par 133 .
The 2016 LGA Senior Four-Ball was played at approximately 6,565 yards .
