BREC breaks
ground;
expands
Howell Park

The Recreation and Park Commission
for the Parish of East Baton Rouge, known
as BREC, broke ground on its expansion of
Howell Community Park on Sept. 23.
The National Golf Foundation’s 2015
evaluation of BREC golf led to their
recommendation that BREC close the
course with the least amount of play, the
one at Howell, and repurpose it. According
to BREC Director of Golf Mike Raby,
although it is the end of a golf course, BREC
golf should benefit as a whole.
“It saves the money that we were losing
here and hopefully pushes some rounds and
revenue to the other BREC courses,” Raby
said. “That hopefully makes the BREC golf
system healthier in the big picture.”
