newsspin Sonnier Claims GPSGA Professional Championship Greg Sonnier’s winning streak continued at the 2018 Gulf States PGA Professional Championship at Fallen Oak Golf Club in Saucier, Mississippi, Aug. 13 – 14. The fi eld was comprised of 48 players with the top four fi nishers qualifying for the 2019 PGA Professional Championship to be held at Belfair (West & East Courses) in Bluff ton, South Carolina April 28 – May 1. Reg Adams, of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Sonnier, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, took the fi rst-round lead with rounds of two-under par, 70. Drew Goff of New Orleans was a shot back after the opening round with a fi rst-round score of one-under, 71. Sonnier fi red a two-over par, 74, in the fi nal round to claim the Gulf States PGA Professional Championship. Kyle Ramey had the low round of the tournament with a sizzling fi ve-under par, 67, on the fi nal day. Ramey’s card included seven birdies. Qualifi ers:Greg Sonnier, 70-74=144 (E), Kyle Ramey, 78-67=145 (+1), Jake Narro, 73-72=145 (+1), and Craig Campo, 74-72=146 (+2). They 34 will be representing the Gulf States Section at the 2019 PGA Professional Championship. Alternates include: Reg Adams, 70-77=147 (+3), Tim Yelverton, 75-73=148 (+4), Zach Tate, 78-71=149 (+5), and Blake Thomas, 73-77=150 (+6). The Gulf States PGA thanked the staff at Fallen Oak Golf Club including the PGA Director of Golf Rick Gehr, PGA Head Golf Professional Patrick LaRotonda, Food & Beverage Manager Gunter Adkins, and Head Golf Course Superintendent Matt Hughes.
