Sonnier Claims GPSGA
Professional Championship
Greg Sonnier’s winning streak continued
at the 2018 Gulf States PGA Professional
Championship at Fallen Oak Golf Club in
Saucier, Mississippi, Aug. 13 – 14. The fi eld
was comprised of 48 players with the top four
fi nishers qualifying for the 2019 PGA Professional
Championship to be held at Belfair (West & East
Courses) in Bluff ton, South Carolina April 28 –
May 1.
Reg Adams, of Shreveport, Louisiana, and
Sonnier, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, took the
fi rst-round lead with rounds of two-under par,
70. Drew Goff of New Orleans was a shot back
after the opening round with a fi rst-round score
of one-under, 71.
Sonnier fi red a two-over par, 74, in the fi nal
round to claim the Gulf States PGA Professional
Championship. Kyle Ramey had the low round
of the tournament with a sizzling fi ve-under par,
67, on the fi nal day. Ramey’s card included seven
birdies.
Qualifi ers:Greg Sonnier, 70-74=144 (E), Kyle
Ramey, 78-67=145 (+1), Jake Narro, 73-72=145
(+1), and Craig Campo, 74-72=146 (+2). They

will be representing the Gulf States Section at
the 2019 PGA Professional Championship.
Alternates include: Reg Adams, 70-77=147
(+3), Tim Yelverton, 75-73=148 (+4), Zach Tate,
78-71=149 (+5), and Blake Thomas, 73-77=150
(+6).
The Gulf States PGA thanked the staff

Director of Golf Rick Gehr, PGA Head
Golf Professional Patrick LaRotonda, Food &
Beverage Manager Gunter Adkins, and Head
Golf Course Superintendent Matt Hughes. The

specifi cally including Jim Caldwell, Matt
Brunetz, PGA, and Brooks Baldwin at Ladd’s,
and Buster Toms and Rick Forbis at Golf Cars
of Louisiana. The Section thanked supporting
