Two Low Scorers Qualify for US Mid-Amateur
Championship at Annandale
Joel Myrick and Steve Johnson will both
advance to the next stage of qualifying after
each shot 69 at Annandale Golf Club.
The US Mid Amateur Championship was the
goal for all 46 amateur golfers. As play began,
all players were aware that only two would be
granted the invitation to travel to Charlotte,
North Carolina, for the Championship in
September.
The players traveled to Madison from
several states. As the morning progressed, there
were quite a few golfers in contention for the
qualifying positions. But when the final scores
were posted, there were 2 players tied at the top
for the low score. Myrick (Hattiesburg, MS) and
Johnson (Rock Springs, GA) both posted a 69
(-3) for the day and will advance.
Behind the two leaders was a three-way tie
for the two alternate positions. The ties for the
alternate positions must be broken by a on-
course, hole-by-hole playoff. The three players:
Trey Denton, Clint Provost, and Victor Kyatt all
tied the first playoff hole, but on the second hole,
Kyatt was eliminated. The Third hole was the
26
deciding factor for the alternates, as Trey
Denton (Madison, MS) defeated Clint Provost
(Birmingham, AL). Denton is the first alternate
and Provost is the second.
The MGA thanked Annandale Golf Club
for hosting.
