The fall has brought cooler
weather and the excitement
of the leaves changing colors
... said no one in Louisiana or
Mississippi ever.
It’s still hot as blazes here
in the Gulf States Section,
but we certainly are entering
a wonderful time of year. It’s
fall festival season, and we are
starting to eyeball the seasonings
we have saved in the freezer for
our first gumbos.
Or, at least, that’s what I’m
doing. We’re tailgating fools at
the Narro house, but we are so
disappointed that it’s not quite
cool enough for that fabulous
fall treat.
We are happy to see the golf
clubs coming out of the closet,
however. Even though it’s still
steaming, the fall tournaments
are on schedule, and we have
an issue full of events for this
season. From 4-balls to fall golf
camps, there is definitely golf to
be played.
October is also the month
when I will be traveling to
play on a ladies golf trip and
r eport back next month on my
experience. As I said last month,
I’m a nervous wreck. With new
responsibilities at Southeastern,
I have been really busy and still
haven’t had a chance to get to
the driving range and swing a
golf club.
I’m starting to realize what
our resident PT Scott Higgs says
is true – I need to work out these
muscles before I start trying
to attack a golf ball. While I
was nervous last month about
playing, I’m nervous this month
about hurting myself. No, really.
The woes of those we have
mentioned in Backspin before
are worrying me. Our friend
actually broke his ankle playing
golf, the back injuries we all
know about and relive with each
turn and twist, the knee injuries,
shoulder problems ... and Jake
has what he has self-diagnosed
as arthritis in his finger.
Truth – I haven’t practiced. I
haven’t even tried to hit a ball in
about a year. I think I’m about
to find muscle pain in places I
didn’t know existed.
I’m a few weeks away. I was
nervous last month about playing
in general and embarrassing
myself. This month, I’ll be
happy to embarrass myself if
I can come back in one piece.
Look out for my experience in
the November Backspin.
Amber
P.S. Pray for me.
