Sonnier qualifies for Assistant PGA
Professional Championship
Greg Sonnier, PGA Apprentice from Lake
Charles Country Club, captured the 2017
National Car Rental Gulf States Assistant
PGA Professional Championship. Sonnier
will be representing the Gulf States Section at
the 2017 National Car Rental Assistant PGA
Professional Championship, which will be
played at PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker course
on Nov. 9-12th. This year’s Section event was
contested at Bayou Oaks at City Park – South
Course on Sept. 11 and 12.
Bayou Oaks at City Park provided a great
test to 23 players. The participants felt the
pressure from the high winds on both days,
which only added to the pressure to compete
for the one spot available to the Section for the
National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional
Championship taking place this fall.
Sonnier finished the week with scores of 72
and 77 for a two-day total of 149. Claiming
the three alternate spots for the National
Championship are PGA Apprentice Nic Ishee
of Metairie Country Club, PGA Apprentice
Allan Martel of Audubon Golf Club, and PGA
Apprentice Derek Plucienski of the Gulf States
PGA.
Leadership in the Gulf States PGA said they
would like to thank the staff at Bayou Oaks at
City Park including the General Manager and
PGA Member Brian Long, and Head Golf
Professional Alex Abbruzza, for providing
the Section with a tremendous setting for this
annual event and for their terrific job in hosting.
The Section also thanked the Title Sponsor
National Car Rental and Supporting Sponsors
Cleveland, Srixon, and the PGA Tour.
