newsspin - LGA Announces 2019 Championship Schedule The Louisiana Golf Association (LGA) announced its 2019 Championship Schedule on Wednesday. The LGA will conduct 14 Championships, in addition to 16 State Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championship Qualifiers. The LGA is an Allied Golf Association of the USGA, and as such, the governing body for amateur golf in Louisiana will conduct eight qualifiers on behalf of the USGA in 2019. The LGA will officially unify with the Louisiana Women’s Golf Association, effective January 1, 2019, and the organization will add five women’s championships to next year’s slate. “We are excited about our 2019 championship schedule and the quality venues we can provide our members an opportunity to play,” said LGA Executive Director Logan Ray. “The 2019 schedule showcases facilities that give back to the game by hosting our Championships, and we sincerely appreciate their support. We are especially proud to now conduct championships for women, and we are looking forward to a fun and competitive season.” Truly, 2019 will be a banner year for amateur golfers in the Bayou State as the LGA travels to excellent courses. The stellar 2019 LGA Championship Schedule is highlighted by the 100th LGA Amateur Championship, to be conducted at historic Baton Rouge Country Club, July 18-21. Registration for that event will open February 1, and the entry deadline is June 11. There will be eight LGA Amateur qualifying sites available throughout the state. Baton Rouge Country Club, established in 1916, is one of the founding members of the LGA and it is certainly fitting that the club will host the centennial edition of state’s most prestigious Amateur Championship. Baton Rouge Country Club first hosted the Louisiana State Amateur in 1923 and has hosted the event a total of five times in all (1923, 1942, 1949, 1953, and 1968). The 100th LGA Amateur in 2019 will mark the first time the LGA will conduct its marquee Championship at BRCC in 51 years (1968), an event won by Shirley Picard of Lafayette with a total of even par 288. The 100th LGA Amateur Championship in Louisiana’s Capital City is sure to be a tremendous celebration of golf in the state, honoring the legacy and traditions of the past while setting the stage for a bright future. “The Baton Rouge Country Club is excited to host the centennial edition of the state’s most prestigious amateur golf event, the 2019 LGA State Amateur Championship,” said Michael Masson, CCM General Manager at Baton Rouge Country Club. “We are looking forward to welcoming the field of Louisiana’s top amateur players and confirming our historic commitment to amateur golf.” The 2019 Championship Season kicks off on March 11th at the Jack Nicklaus designed Country Club of Louisiana, site of the popular U.S. Amateur and U.S. Women’s Amateur Four- Ball Qualifiers. In fact, Louisiana boasts the largest qualifying field and most qualifying spots available anywhere in the United States. Four teams from a field of 80 will punch their ticket to the championship proper, to be conducted at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon, May 25- 29. The LGA schedule officially kicks off in late April with the Club Team Championship at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Denham Springs. This event matches teams from LGA Member Clubs in an exciting Ryder Cup type format consisting of 4-Ball stroke play on Saturday and individual stroke play on Sunday. This will mark the first time that Greystone will host an LGA Championship, and the golf course is sure to be in great shape next Spring. The LGA will remain in the Baton Rouge area for the subsequent event, the Women’s Four- Ball Championship, which will be conducted at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Zachary, May 1-2. Beaver Creek is one of the top public facilities in Louisiana and will be a treat for competitors in the Women’s Four-Ball. Money Hill Golf & Country Club in Abita Springs will host the LGA Senior Amateur and Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships, May 19
