even the non-
golfer

Imagine the week starting with plans to
head to the Zurich Classic for the weekend.
The thought of going to a professional golf
tournament is quite unusual for the non-golfer.
The weekend originally pictured was definitely
nothing in the realm of golf.
Sure family members and friends play golf,
but it is not something that truly holds meaning
or importance.
The meaning of golf will not be thought of
as a snooze after attending the Zurich Classic
in the “Crescent City” for the first time, but
more of a memory that would last a lifetime.
It’s the big day. The sunglasses are on, and
the music is playing on the open road. You
think, “birdie,chip, and fore” are a few of
the many terms of golf, and you’re trying to
remember the meaning of each.
The charter buses are unloading with eager
golf fanatics. Bubba Watson and Patrick Reed
are on the team listing. Master’s champions –
they are a must see.
Step by step, followers walk in lock-step.
Everyone is smiling and engaging with one
another. Strangers are exchanging “oohs,”
“ahhs,” “awws,” and “quiet please” demands.
The little phrases are not the only thing
start becoming familiar to the non-golfer. The
names of the leaders become important, every
shot vital. All of a sudden – it’s interesting.
Massive crowds gather near the 18th hole as
finalists battle for the win. What will happen?
Is it possible to stand behind the ropes without
cutting in front of another fan to see the last
shot?
It is a must. Do whatever it takes.
The last putt. The crowd goes wild. Cheering
and screaming as loud as possible, fans run to
get close to the winners’ circle to get autographs
and come together as a golf community.
Now the grass on the course has been walked
flat, hands have clapped together, and jaws
have dropped, it’s time to look up the dates for
the Zurich Classic next year.
It’s on the calendar.
Golf is no longer a boring sport is only
important when trying to take a nap, it is
suddenly something that is used to create
memories and acknowledge an enormous
talent once unnoticed.
