Old Waverly Invitational
West Point, MS - The first tournament of the
2017 MGA Championship season kicked-off April
8-9 at Old Waverly Golf Club. Their field of 102
amateur golfers was stacked with known talent.
Benjamin Nelson, of Madison, took home his first
amateur championship title, holding off some of
Mississippi’s best amateur players.
Nelson’s one under par 143 defeated Chip
Getz, of Paradise Valley, Arizona and Joel Myrick
of Hattiesburg, who tied for runner up at even par
144.
The Senior Division title went into a playoff
to determine its champion. Barry Stafford, of
Memphis, defeated David Sellers, of Madison,
in a playoff. Stafford and Sellers both finished at
four over par 148. Columbus’s Charlie Pilkinton
took home the Super Senior Trophy with a two
over par 146. Finishing two strokes back in second
place was Greg Brooking of Natchez at 148.
