Hughes Named 2018 MS PGA Champion
Sonnier Claims Low Professional ; Gray Named Senior Champion
The Ladd ’ s / Club Car MS PGA Championship named its 2018 Regular and Senior Division Champions today . The event was held on Monday , May 21st and Tuesday , May 22nd at Tupelo Country Club in Belden , Mississippi .
PGA Professional Greg Sonnier of Lake Charles Country Club , took the Round 1 lead after firing a sizzling four-under par , 68 . Reed Hughes of Senatobia , Mississippi made four birdies to shoot a one-under par round of 71 to sit in second place heading into the final round .
Hughes fired a 76 in round 2 for a 36 hole total of 147 , while Sonnier shot a 72 for a 36 hole total of 140 .
This year , Louisiana PGA Members were invited to play in the MSPGA Championship . While the Mississippi Member with the lowest score is named Champion ,
Louisiana members can compete for the purse . Hughes claimed the title of MS PGA Champion , and
Sonnier took home the first place prize money . Marvin Gray of Brandon , Mississippi was the winner of the Senior division firing a 2 day total of 171 .
The Gulf States PGA thanked Chad Douglas , PGA Head Golf Professional , Adam Smith , Assistant Professional , Danny Weldon , Food & Beverage Manager , Jim Kwasinski , Golf Course Superintendent , and the staff and membership at Tupelo Country Club , for their work .
The Gulf States PGA also thanked Jim Caldwell , Matt Brunetz , PGA , and Brooks Baldwin of Ladd ’ s , as well as the supporting sponsors Meegan West of Greg Norman and the PGA TOUR for continued support of the event .
Summer Intern Mason Banger Joins GSPGA
The Gulf States Section announced the hiring of Summer Intern Mason Banger . He will start immediately and work with the Section through mid- August .
Banger is from Southhampton , UK and is currently on the Harding University golf team in Searcy , Arkansas , working towards a degree in Sports Management .
