Jake is going to tell you all about
his trip to Pebble Beach in this
issue of Backspin and a little about
the course, and you will be shocked
to know that I too played golf this
month – with my no-mercy-cut-
throat-putt-putt-playing husband.
I thought that for once in my life,
I might have a chance at beating
him at golf, especially after I got a
hole in one – and then he got two.
It just ain’t right.
I’m calling for handicapping the
putt-putt course. Our friend Kirk
Jones says I should at least get a
half a stroke a hole. I’m thinking
three-quarters.
And then he got mad because
I called it mini-golf. Well, the sign
said that, but apparently, we in the
golf world do not call putt-putt
mini-golf. I think that’s probably
why the “golf gods” Jake talks
about all the time would not allow
me to have the win even just this
once.
Now, I will admit. I’ve won
every argument that we’ve ever
had. I beat him at cards, and I can
totally outrun him 100 times out of
100. I cook better, I dance better
(much better), and I sing better –
even though neither one of us can
actually sing much at all.
We were on a cruise that our
friend Bridgett Gauthreaux set up
for us. The putt-putt course was
perhaps my favorite part of the
ship. The wind got so bad at times
that it was difficult to play, but it
was so much fun we played anyway.
I dig putt-putt. I’ll do that any
time. I also thoroughly enjoyed
the ship. I ate an omelet every day
with everything on it, and I read
two awesome books.
Jake confiscated my phone when
we got on the ship, so I was pretty
unplugged except for a few emails
every morning that would allow
me to relax for the rest of the day
– knowing that my inbox wasn’t
doubling by the hour.
It was our first cruise. We will
definitely go on another one, but
I think I want to go somewhere
other than Mexico. Cozumel and
Costa Maya were both beautiful,
and I don’t regret the trip at all. I
just think I’ve got the bug now, and
I want to see other places.
Bon voyage!
Amber
