newsspin Tupelo members dominate home course amateur event Tupelo, Mississippi - Jacob Ross won the Tupelo Amateur event, and David Griffin won the senior division May 20-21 at Tupelo Country Club. Mike Thompson completed the champions list in the super senior division. The field of 66 players was strong with a good number of those in the lead taking advantage of home course knowledge. The three champions are all long-time Tupelo Country Club members. Austin Rose of Tupelo began the final round tied with fellow collegiate athlete Ross. Rose and Ross both fired a two-under par 70 in the opening round. Rose held onto the lead and took home the amateur title finishing with a four-under par score of 140. Another well-known Tupelo amateur often at the top of the leader board, David Griffin posted 3-under par on Sunday. Griffin quickly rose to the top of the field in the Senior Division with his 36-hole total of one-under par. Mike Thompson made up six strokes in the final round to take the title of Super Senior champion and win by one stroke. The Mississippi Golf Association extended its thanks for those at Tupelo Country Club and all who volunteered to make this sanctioned tournament a success. Story submitted by MGA. Lampley Wins Second Mid Amateur Meridian, Mississippi – The 29th Mid- Amateur Championship was played May 5-7 at Northwood Country Club. Fifty-two golfers teed it up, and Josh Lampley of Gulfport, walked away with the Bob Travis Memorial Trophy and his second Mid Am title (2015). Lampley’s five-under-par 208 was good enough for a three shot win over Steve Wilson of Gautier who finished at two under 211. Eddie Brescher III, of Hattiesburg, rounded out the top three at one under 212. The MGA thanked Northwood Country Club’s Head Golf Professional Billy Pomeroy and Course Superintendent Britt Pollock for preparation and event coordination.
