junior golfer Morse tops defending champion Ford in five-hole playoff at the Metro / Mackel

Sixteen year old Trey Morse ( 70-71 ) won The Mackel in a historic sudden death playoff against defending champion TC Ford ( 68- 73 ). No playoff in tournament history has made it to the fifth hole . The first four holes were tied with pars , and Morse made birdie on hole 18 to become one of the youngest champions in the tournament ’ s history .
Also at stake was TC Ford becoming the first ever to defend his overall champion title . Ford came close , making birdies on 17 and 18 to force playoff
Ford said , “ I did not lose today ; I got beat . I am so proud for Trey . He played tough , very talented .”
“ I was nervous , especially in the playoff ,” said Morse . “ I used my bigger muscles and not hands in my putting , and that made the difference under pressure . I am proud to join Jacob Bergeron ( 2015 Mackel Champion ) as a junior golfer to win the overall .”
The Mackel , presented by Cox , returned this year to Bayou Oaks at City Park where the tournament began in 1993 . This event , named in memory of PGA Professional Frank Mackel , is the former Metro Tournament , originally formed to as New Orleans ’ premier event for amateur golfers in the region .
