Heine takes BR Women ’ s Championship
Anna Heine took first place in the Baton Rouge Women ’ s Amateur Championship , defending her 2016 title .
Heine shot 78 , followed in second by Alexis Gonzalez ( 84 ), Rachel Hugghins ( 84 ), and Victoria Zaunbrecher ( 98 ).
The Championship was divided into three divisions : Senior , Mid-Am and Championship . In the Senior Division , April Prenstenbach took top honors with a 91 , followed by Thelma Price ( 94 ), Martha Collins ( 96 ), and Barbara Freiberg ( 103 ). In the Mid-Am Division , Tracy Simoneaux fired an 81 to claim first place , followed by Ginger Covington ( 84 ), Tina Griffin ( 85 ), Celeste Harris ( 89 ), Donna Ashmore ( 89 ), and Suzanne Seefield ( 89 ).

Memorial Golf Course , Webb found herself soaked beyond the ability to properly prepare for the Championship . Santa Maria , though equal to being “ very wet ”, graciously offered to take over the duties of hosting the event . The rains held , and the Championship managed to get in 18 holes .
Following play , Heine commented on her victory , stating that she had taken some time off and this was basically one of her first rounds back .
“ Because I hadn ’ t played in a while , I focused on hitting each shot one at a time and playing each hole one at time ,” she said . “ I didn ’ t have a main strategy other than just to hit good shots .”
The strategy worked well on a demanding layout that stretched further due to the lack of roll because of the wet conditions .
“ The greens were great considering all the rain ,” Heine said . “ I don ’ t think I made any long putts .”
She then reflected and realized she made a few in the 20-foot range as well as some clutch par putts in the 10-foot range .
“ Now that I think about it , I did make some big putts at the right time .”
Collecting five birdies , and yet stumbling just a bit on the incoming nine , she admitted that since this was her first big round back after the layoff , that the heat and humidity took a toll .
“ It was just a matter of re-focusing and not letting things get out of control ,” she said .
