Five Louisianians selected to 2017 Global Golf Post All-American Team

Global Golf Post , a weekly , online-based national publication just announced their 2017 All-Amateur Team , which includes five ( 5 ) Louisiana golfers who were selected to their respective teams . The publication breaks down male and female golfers into three different groups – Amateur , Mid-Amateur and Senior . Three Louisiana golfers were named to the First Team of their respective group , while two other golfers were named to the Second Team .
Former LSU golfer and current tour professional , Sam Burns ( Shreveport ) was a First Team Men ’ s Amateur team selection . Burns was selected based on his 2017 NCAA Division I Jack Nicklaus National Player of Year award , great individual performance at this year ’ s NCAA Regional at The University Club ( Baton Rouge ) and making the cut in July at the Barbasol Championship , a PGA Tour event conducted in Alabama .
2017 LGA Player of Year and reigning Louisiana Amateur champion , Derek Busby ( Ruston ) along with Patrick Christovich ( New Orleans ) were named to the First Team Men ’ s Mid-Amateur Team . Both Busby and Christovich played great golf outside of the state this year . Busby recently won wire-to-wire the Crane Cup at The Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City , FL , which added to this year ’ s success at the Crump Cup in New Jersey and qualifying for the match play portion of the U . S . Mid- Amateur Championship . Christovich won the Timuquana Cup at Timuquana CC in Jacksonville , FL in May . He followed that up with a runner-up finish at the George C . Thomas Invitational at Los Angeles CC in late June . Christovich also had a runner-up finish at the Louisiana Mid-Amateur in early August bowing out in a four-hole playoff Seth Dufrene .
Rounding out the Global Golf Post All- Amateur Team selections for 2017 . Tommy Brennan and Kay Daniel , both from Covington were Second Team All -Amateur Team selections for their respective groups , Senior and Women ’ s Mid-Amateur .
Brennan , a seven-time LGA Mid-Amateur champion and 2015 Senior Amateur champion had a consistent 2017 season . He had a Top 10 finish this year in the Senior Division at the George L . Coleman Invitational annually hosted at Seminole Golf Club in Florida . He followed that up with a Top 15 finish at the Trans-Miss Senior Championship in Indian Wells , CA , a championship he won in 2016 . Brennan capped off his 2017 accolades with a Top 15 finish in the Senior Amateurs Championship , conducted by the R & A at Sunningdale Golf Club in England . Kay Daniel was named to the Second Team Women ’ s Mid-Amateur Team based on her performance in-state and nationally this year . Daniel won her seventh LWGA Mid-Amateur title in October along with representing Louisiana at the final USGA Women ’ s State Team Championship in New Mexico . Most recently she advanced to the match play portion of the U . S . Women ’ s Mid-Amateur Championship at Champions GC in Houston , TX . It marked her ninth straight U . S . Women ’ s Mid-Amateur in which she advanced at least to the match play portion of the championship .
