Brescher wins 44th Trustmark Invitational
Eddie Brescher, of Hattiesburg,
won the 2017 Trustmark Invitational
with a three-day total of 9-under par
(66-72-69) 207 at Reunion Golf and
Country Club. The tournament,
which showcases a field of the state’s
top PGA Professionals and Amateurs,
paid a total purse of $25,500.
Brescher opened the event with
a first round 6-under par 66 which
gave him a 3-shot lead heading into
round two. With a 72 in round 2 and
69 in the third, he captured his third
Trustmark Invitational by three shots
over Cameron Clarke of Pittsboro.
“It certainly took practice, mental
preparation, and playing aggressively
from holes 1 to 54.” Reflecting on
his third Trustmark Invitational
title, Brescher said, ”I am extremely
excited, this is an event a lot of us
Amateurs want to win and put on
our schedules every year. I’m very
excited and humbled to win it my
third time.” Brescher went on to say,
“I would like to thank Robert Brown,
the entire Gulf States PGA Staff, the
entire staff at Reunion, Trustmark
Bank for making the event possible,
the Athletic Department at Southern
Miss, and my wife Lauren.”
Nathan Kitson, of Starkville,
claimed the PGA Professional title
with rounds of (76-69-68) for a
three-day total of 3-under par 213.
Ricky Sims, of Canton, took home
the title of Super Senior Champion
with a three-day total of 3-under
par (71-74-68) 213. Kyle Ramey, of
Gulfport, shot a round one score of
3-under par (69) and was awarded
the William E. Sonny Lawson Cup,
which is given to the round one Low
PGA Professional.
