This course will equip you with a well-rounded
understanding of developments in digital
communications worldwide. It will involve you in
hands-on and workplace learning, case studies
and research. Our academic staff are internationally
renowned digital media researchers and teachers
with the expertise to guide your learning.
Course structure
The course develops through three themes:
A core digital media studies component
We have designed a suite of units that provide you
with a solid grounding in digital communication
practice and research. You will learn about the
history of the internet’s development worldwide,
become adept at constructing and analysing digital
objects such as memes, learn about the workings
of e-commerce and social media platforms, and
gain experience in executing a digital media
research project.
A component that provides a broader
grounding in communication and
media studies
The core digital media units dovetail with those
that equip you with key concepts and
developments in media studies, as well as media
policy. The inclusion of this stream ensures that
you will graduate with an holistic understanding
of the broader media landscapes that digital
media inhabit.
A professional practice component that
provides opportunities to apply your
knowledge to workplace situations
This stream allows you to apply your knowledge
to real world situations calling for team work,
policy design and advanced oral communication
skills. You will also gain valuable work experience
by applying for an internship through our extensive
network of industry partners.
