The Best Places to Stay, Eat, and Visit in Houston with Kids
Can you believe this was our first visit to Houston -- and our
first time ever in the Lone Star State? A few years ago, we
made the huge move cross-country from SoCal to Northwest
Arkansas. Talk about a transition! Yet despite being so close
to Texas, we’ve been so wrapped up with our farm renovation
project we’ve barely had time for adventuring.
But a few weeks ago, we piled all three boys (ages 12, 10, and
4) into the truck, and hit the road, Texas-style. Life in our tiny
Arkansas town shuts down after dark, so we were all thrilled
to spend the weekend somewhere a little bit faster-paced (and
where we could still grab a bite to eat after nine o’clock!)
Houston is a huge city; there’s no shortage of things to do with
kids. We researched before we arrived, asked a few locals for
recommendations, and then ventured out on our own. And we
struck gold! Here are our very favorite Houston spots.
SPRINKLES ATM
If you haven’t experienced Sprinkles yet, why are you still
waiting? Yes, this is the Sprinkles you’ve heard about -- the
special cupcake ATM where baked treats drop down into your
waiting hands.

THE WOODLANDS RESORT
We loved this gorgeous, clean hotel surrounded by lush trees,
a lazy river, and -- the boys’ favorite -- a waterpark! The
restaurant is fantastic, and friendly staff even come to your
room with milk and cookies for the kids.

TINYS MILK & COOKIES PLAY //
Possibly boasting the perfect chocolate chip cookie (ever), Tinys
is an adorable walk-up bakery, coffee and ice cream shop. The
cookies are baked fresh every twenty minutes, all day long! HOUSTON ZOO

With over six thousand animals, this zoo is the ultimate
destination for young families. We fed the giraffes, rode the
Wildlife Carousel, and cooled off at the Kathrine McGovern Water
Play Park -- included in zoo admission!

FOGO DE CHÃO BRAZILIAN RESTAURANT
As a Brazilian-American family,, this was a must for us. Not
only do they serve delicious arroz e feijao (Brazilian rice and
beans) but our favorite meats are on rotation, too! Don’t miss the
chance to sip a refreshing Guarana, Brazil’s favorite carbonated
beverage.
