Summer 2017-18 Edition Letter from the Editor Hi Coasties! Sponsors We finally have our Super Council with newly elected Councillors – about time. I welcome the new Councillors and look forward to transparency and unity within the Council. I have asked the Mayor Jane Smith and Deputy Mayor Chris Holstein to comment on their first 30 days in council (see page 18), I believe you will find this quite informative and heading into the right direction to ensure the Central Coast thrives. The Central Coast Airport has been a controversial topic for our region for many years. Council have requested a briefing from the Department of Planning to Councillors regarding the options for the Airport. Mayor Jane Smith quoted “In the interests of openness and transparency I believe we need to understand where the plans are up to so we can make realistic and lasting decisions about the future for the site.” It seems like we will finally have facts not fiction regarding our airport. (see more on page 15) The augural Central Coast Connections Forum to assist small business on the Central Coast was held in September at Mingara and was highly successful. The event attracted exhibitors from government departments, business resource provides and business leaders. Attendees commented that they found the forum highly useful for their business and all walked away with over $2000 in offers and vouchers to assist their business. (see review on page 12). 2GO have done it again with Give Me 5 for Kids raising over $240,000. All proceeds are used to help children on the Central Coast. A special thanks to Paddy Gerrard and Sarah King for coming up with the idea, read the background of how it all started on page 22. Take off your ugg boots and put on your thongs – Summer is here. Before you know it the silly season will be upon us, let’s not forget to be sun smart. See page 8 to remind yourself. For those that are visiting or want to explore the coast see page 26 for beaches, playground and picnic spots.
