Rachelle Kroon
I grew up on the Central Coast and then moved to Sydney to go to University . I started my career in 2003 as a Home Lender on the Northern side of the Central Coast , I was 23 and a single mother so the flexibility of a lending role was paramount . In my second year of lending I was doing extremely well and won a number of awards that brought me to the attention of the corporate office of one of the major banks who offered me a role as a Business Development Manager .
The travel and long hours were a challenge however , I loved the Business Development Manager role and was able to coach brokers to use our products and grow market share for the bank . At 29 I was working in a role which I loved however , I did struggle with family commitments and the constant travel , so I decided it was time to open my own Mortgage Broking Business : Sphere Finance . It was something I had thought about over many years , I was very experienced and well connected across a number of lenders so believed I would be successful .
Leaving a large salary and the stability of a corporate career at 30 was hard . Starting a business from the ground up was also a challenge and there were things I certainly did not expect or plan for . I have worked more 70-hour weeks than I can count in those first years of the business , not the lifestyle I had initially set out to start , but was the foundation for the company that now exists as a result .
As I sit down to write this now I am extremely proud of the business I have created . We have put four young people through traineeships , employ nine fulltime staff and have three offices on the Central Coast . To top it off I will celebrate 5 years of being in business in June this year .
In 2017 I was awared Australia ’ s top female mortgage broker in the Country . Mortgage Broking is still male dominated so currently I am proudly mentoring two female mortgage brokers . Sphere Finance has had some very large industry awards and is one of the top brokerages in the country today .
