Fire, Crime, Safety and Healthcare are a Public Affair
Burl Haigwood: Director of Operations & Public Affairs
Crime prevention, fire safety and healthcare are the valuable core services needed to sustainable a local
economy. Having a world class 1st responder community is also a magnate that helps attract new industries,
businesses and families to our community.
With that in mind, the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce is honored to present the 9th Annual
Community Softball Classic: A Salute to our 1st Responders in cooperation with our title sponsor St. Joseph’s
Regional Health Center. The game will be played June 4th at Cellucor Field – home of the Back-to-Back and
Defending Texas Collegiate League Champions - the Brazos Valley Bombers. This double header will feature
the Bryan & College Station Police Department’s “Cold Steel” team sponsored by McDonald’s playing the Bryan
& College Station Fire Department’s “Hot Stuff” team sponsored by Brazos Valley Fire & Apparatus Services –
immediately followed by the Brazos Valley Bombers baseball game.
Our community is very blessed to be served by exceptional 1st responders and a world class health care
system. These often unsung heroes save lives every day and are the first link in the chain of emergency care in
our community. This special game gives the Chamber the opportunity to recognize the important role crime
prevention, fire safety and other 1st responders play in protecting our citizens and the positive impact they have
on economic development in our community. The game also provides a time for all of us to honor the local fallen
heroes from our area and provides financial support to the 100 Club which has helped several local families.
“St. Joseph is honored to be the presenting
sponsor for the Chamber’s Softball Classic. Our First
Responders are a critical part of the healthcare team.
Each day, they perform heroic acts as they help those
who are often in their time of greatest need. We are
looking forward to saluting those individuals who
have dedicated their lives to this community and
help St. Joseph carry out our mission every day,” said
Kathy Krusie, CEO, St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
