French Trip - La Touquet On Friday 14th October, 29 students who are currently studying French, set off to Le Touquet in the north of France, to experience French culture for the weekend. The weekend was packed with opportunities for students to use and practise their French skills prior to their GCSE exams in the forthcoming months and years. On Friday, before reaching the hotel we stopped at a chocolate factory to learn about chocolate, where it comes from and how it is made. The following morning we visited the local market where students had two tasks to complete in French whilst looking around the stalls. In the afternoon they went to Boulogne sur Mer and spent some time in the old town completing a town trail, followed by a visit to the sweet factory “Becasuc”. On Sunday morning, we visited a WWII museum called “La Coupole”. This used to be a German bunker during the war, and it is from here that rockets were launched and directed at London and southern England. Students listened to stories of the French resistance and how the rockets were made. In the afternoon we went to a snail farm and learnt a lot of facts about snails and were giving the opportunity to taste them! The talk was in French and students were great at translating everything. Every evening, students spent time writing their French journal and doing activities with their teachers. They also had the opportunity to go to the beach and play games, to help burn off some of their energy! Finally, on the way home, we stopped at “Cité Eu rope” in Calais for a bit of shopping, and a last chance to spend the last few euros! A great weekend was had by all and a special thank you goes to Miss Labreize, Mr Pearson, Miss Benvenuto and Mrs Chamberlain for giving up their weekend and contributing to the success of this trip.
