AVS Newsletter Novmeber 18 2016

Fortnightly News November 18th 2016 MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD TEACHER Dear Parents and Carers The recent election in America has certainly caused a political storm and, post election, a great deal of commentary has taken place about the way that the two candidates spoke to, and about, each other. At Avon Valley, we work hard to ensure that our students show respect to each other and have an understanding of appropriate behaviour towards others, both within our community and outside it. We believe that all of our students have the right to feel safe and happy at school and I ask that you support us in reinforcing the message that making unpleasant and derogatory comments is an inappropriate and offensive way to relate to others - even if Presidential candidates mistakenly feel that it is a reasonable way to behave! I would also like to take the opportunity to reinforce a message that is being given to all students through assembly this week - which is a reminder about the school's mobile phone policy. While we allow students to bring phones to school, they are not allowed to have them out in lessons or in the corridors. This is to ensure that lessons are not disturbed and that students remain focused on learning, and in addition that free time is spent socialising with the friends that are there - not the ones that are not! Please do reinforce this message with your child, as phones that are confiscated must be collected by a parent/carer at the end of the school day. Thank-you for your support.
