BUSINESS STUDIES Year 10 Students have now completed the first two activities of their controlled assessment part of the course, on the Cadbury’s section of the Mondelez International Organisation. Activity 1 focused on aims and objectives, company products, competition and working in an ethical manner. Activity 2 focused on how companies require numerous departments to operate successfully, how these departments communicate and how Cadbury communicate with others outside of the business. Year 10 students are now working in preparation for the pre-public examination in the summer term. Students are learning about Unit 2: Financial Records. Within this unit students will study;          FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS PAYMENT METHODS / SOURCES OF FINANCE COSTS (START UP AND RUNNING COSTS) PROFIT AND LOSS ACCOUNTS COMPUTERISED ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS PROFITABILITY RATIOS ASSETS AND LIABILITIES BALANCE SHEET LIQUIDITY RATIOS There will be a one hour long mock exam in the summer term and students will have extensive revision notes that they need to print off to revise from. Year 11 I have really enjoyed working with the three Business classes in Year 11. All the marks for the students Unit 1 controlled assessment work are now in and have been submitted to the exam board. The 51 students who are entered for the Unit 2 exam should now be fully committed to their revision and preparation. Analysis of past papers has found that students must focus on applying their knowledge to the big 10 mark question at the end of the exam paper. Students have been performing very well on past papers and have all been given individual target grades for the exam in order to achieve their potential. Year 9 & Year 8 Business has once again proved to have been a very popular option with three groups select ing the subject in each year group. ICT The new programme of study for the Computing National Curriculum continues to excite and challenge our students. Our Year 7 students are currently working with Kodu, a free software available to download from the internet. This application gives the students an opportunity to learn to program objects within a visual programming environment made specifically for creating games. It is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for anyone. So far our Year 7 students are really enjoying this project. The Year 8 and 9 students have been working on a multimedia project, which involves using the Adobe Fireworks graphics package to create an animation. This project is developing skills which allow the students to manipulate sound and create and edit video files. Again we are really pleased that the students are enjoying this project and learning to develop some valuable skills for the future. Year 10 students are working really hard and some have actually finished their coursework. This creates a fantastic opportunity to go back and make improvements as the controlled assessment counts for 60% of the total assessment in ICT. Finally, Year 11 students are at the end of their time at AVS. It has been a pleasure to teach you: Well done for all you all! You’ve worked really hard and completed your controlled assessment on time and to a very high standard and we sent off the course work samples 2 weeks ahead of schedule! Well done for making this an enjoyable experience with all the amazing work you did. We would like to wish you the best for your upcoming exams and good luck for the future!
