ASPIRE Cambridge University Access Tour In March, The Cambridge University Clare College Access Tour visited the school. This presentation was aimed at the more able students within Year 10 to encourage them to start thinking about further education at one of the countries top universities. The event was not just designed to encourage students to apply to Cambridge, but with the wider remit to ensure that all students have the access they need when considering Higher Education. This was a successful and invaluable opportunity for our students to talk to current undergraduates about their experiences of applying for and studying at University. Topics covered included: How University works? Next steps – how to maximise your potential in the coming years GCSE results and A level choices Life at University Aiming for the Russell Group Applying to Cambridge University - Why and How? Aspire becomes Globus Furthermore, the school’s Aspire provision aimed at our most able students is currently undergoing a re-branding programme and will in the future, be called Globus. This name was carefully chosen by some of our most able Year 7 and 8 students and it reflects the student’s aspirations when it comes to their learning. They are setting their sights high with the understanding that knowledge and education is a truly global factor and one they intend to succeed with. Some exciting projects to look out for in the Summer term include a Year 8 STEM Day (Energy Quest), a visit to the science department at Warwick University (Science Survival) and a STEM day at Lawrence Sheriff School (Wind Turbine G.E. Project). Together with new projects being run by subject departments – The Maths Challenge, English - Debate Competition, creative writing competition, book discussion and spelling competition, Science – KS3 Science club and CREST Award competition for KS3 students. Warwick Sutton Scholars Success Jasmine Cosgrove in Year 9 has just graduated from the Warwick Sutton Scholars scheme at Warwick University.
