LINK GOVERNOR I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the school’s link governor. My name is Rachael Cunningham and I have been a parent governor for almost 4 years and have recently taken on the role as Link Governor for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Looked After Children (LAC). I have 2 daughters at AVS and a son who left in July 2015. My day job is working for the NHS as a Community Nurse which I have done for the past 10 years, and I believe this role along with having a child with a special need, puts me in a good position to support the school. I understand the pressure that having a child with a special need can place on a family, and the importance of having an excellent educational provision. I believe Avon Valley School supports their special needs students to a very high standard. As the SEND/LAC governor I will be working alongside the SENC O Mrs. Stock, to offer support and to look at ways that can enhance the learning/support of our students with special needs so they can achieve their goals. One of my responsibilities of the role is also to act as a voice for parents, so to fulfil this I will be available to speak to on Parents’ Evenings. I look forward to meeting you all. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance [email protected] INTER-HOUSE ROUNDERS On Thursday 26th May, an Inter House rounders tournament took place on the school field. The sun was shining and over 120 staff and students turned out to compete together for their House. There was a fantastic atmosphere and it was great to see staff and students working together, whilst having fun. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was had by participants and spectators!
