GEOGRAPHY Fieldwork is an important aspect of the Geography curriculum. This year the controlled assessment required students to study the impact of tourism on Stratford-Upon-Avon. offered some advice to the Year 10’s that they wished they had been given in Year 10. Whilst in Stratford-Upon-Avon, the students conducted a number of surveys and questionnaires which explored the impact of tourism in the town. It was a very productive day and we were impressed with the way our students conducted themselves whilst there. The Year 10s are now busy writing up the findings which will contribute towards 25% of their final grade. It is essential that students work hard in their controlled assessment and if they have missed any time due to absence then they must attend catch up sessions after school (3.05 – 4.05) on Tuesdays or Thursdays in SS1. Year 10 are also expected to be revising for their end of year exams. The topics that they need to focus on are: Water on the Land, Changing Urban Environments and Tourism. All of the revision material they need is in their class book, revision guides and on Show my Homework. Year 11 students have astounded and delighted the Geography department with their commitment to learning and mature approach to their revision this year; we are hoping that all of their hard work delivers some fantastic and well deserved grades in the summer. Some of the Year 11 students have ‘Course work for me is a life line because it means you go into the exam in a good position. In Year 10 I under estimated how stressed I would feel in Year 11. I’m really glad I worked hard on my controlled assessment as it has taken some of the pressure off’ Erin Year 11 ‘I wish I’d have worked harder on my controlled assessment. I was given all the information I needed to do well but didn’t take it seriously. I regret that now.’ Tom Year 11. Key Stage 3 Year 7 have worked really hard this year to develop their geography skills. They have recently produced some fantastic presentations on housing developments in the UK and they will finish their year looking at flooding in the UK. Year 8 have been studying Earthquakes and Volcanoes and are looking forward to finding out about China in the next topic. Year 9 have been introduced to GCSE style learning in preparation for next year, whilst studying world biomes and ecosystems. KS3 have worked really hard this year and have stepped up to the challenge of the new KS3 curriculum.
