Year 8 PIXL Edge
Initiative
Throughout Year 8, students have been
working towards completing the PiXL Edge
award. This is an award that is designed to
encourage the development of 5 personal
attributes:
Leadership,
Organisation,
Resilience, Initiative, and Communication (The
“LORIC”). Students have been set the goal of
completing two tasks in each attribute (10
tasks in total) that demonstrate these key skills.
For example, students could complete the task
of “Captain a sports team” to demonstrate
Leadership skills or “Perform an acting role for
a school performance” to demonstrate
Communication skills.
Students who complete the award may have
the chance to go to London for a national
presentation ceremony where they will collect
their certificates. It would be great if you could
encourage your child to finish their award and
be part of this fantastic opportunity.
In the past few weeks, Avon Valley has made a
big push to encourage students to complete
the award. Time has been allocated in their
PSHE and Computing lessons and Year 8 tutor
groups have been moved into computer rooms
to give students access to the online system
where they submit their activities and
evaluations. Many students are on their way to
