Textiles News GCSE Art & Design- Textiles Year 9 in particular took to their first construction project with great enthusiasm and growing confidence. The project asked the students to design their own waistcoat, which had to be adapted from a standard block template. The skills that they needed to include were basic plain seams, darts to add shape and fit to their garment and a component or fastening. Some students even went a step further by adapting the size and KS3 Textiles Technology Well done to all the Year 7 and Year 8 students who have been working hard towards the completion of their ‘design and make’ tasks in their Textiles module this term. Year 7 have been creating their hand puppets using hand stitches, they have all been taught some basic skills such as how to weave and how to sew on a button. Year 8 students have been inspired by the festival “day of the dead” for their fantastic cushion designs. The cushions included fabric painted designs using thermochromic paints that change colour when heat is applied and dyeing techniques such as Tie-dye. This was also the first opportunity for some of our students to learn how to operate the sewing machines.
