PHYSICAL EDUCATION At this time of year, when we are recovering from the shock of England’s lacklustre football performance at the Euros, it is easy to blame schools and grass roots sport for not developing youngsters. I find this view very frustrating as I believe the opportunities that are available for students are wider and better than ever, and it is up to them to grasp these opportunities with both hands. I certainly wish I had such a range of activities when I was young. At times though, I feel the opportunities laid on at school are missed by some of our student. To ensure that you and your children are well informed of these activities and matches, we will be making much more use of the PE Twitter feed. Please follow us on #AvonValleySchPE to see what is happening. We hope this will become the major form of communication to let students and parents know of forthcoming fixtures and finishing times, as well as extra curricular clubs. I wanted to use this bulletin to focus on the efforts of the many excellent Sports Leaders we have at Avon Valley. As well as performance, we place great emphasis in PE lessons on building confidence and leadership skills both in lessons and beyond, and we often supply sports leaders to help with local and regional sports partnership events. They never let us down, always conduct themselves brilliantly and return to school with glowing reports from the organisers. Our Year 10 Leaders helped at a Primary School Athletics event where they helped to run, organise and officiate a range of athletics activities at the Queen Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre. The team of Jaymee Russell, Leah Evans, Ellen Armeson, Harriet Ward and Jess McGhee did a great job and were spoken of very highly by event organisers. We also provided Year 9 Leaders for other Athletic events at QDJC and Harris School. Again students had to show their organisational skills, planning, communication and initiative in dealing with young, keen and eager primary school pupils. They did this with great energy, knowledge and patience! Niall, Shay, Lewis , Lewis, Charlie, Matty, Harvey, Alex and Sid Wiki, Chloe, Chloe, Claudia, Emily, Charlotte and Emily
