MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD TEACHER
Dear Parents and Carers
School has been very busy this week - and the end of
term seems to be accelerating towards us!
On Wednesday the school was joined by a group of
‘Rising Stars’ who visited us from three of our primary
feeder schools. The Year 5 pupils involved were
thrilled to spend the day at Avon Valley and really
enjoyed the aspirational activities that had been
arranged for them. They took advantage of the
opportunity for a guided tour of the school and were
keen to try to spot older siblings and cousins. A big
thank-you to Mr Mushing for organising the event.
A real highlight of the year is our annual Awards
Evening and this year’s event went particularly well.
The evening opened with some lovely singing from
the choir with an excellent solo from Alex Hawkins in
Year 7. One hundred and thirty students assembled
to receive awards and to listen to our guest speaker
Paralympic skier Anna Turney. Anna gave an
inspirational talk about her personal journey to
overcome severe injury to compete with team GB and
shared with us the importance of self belief,
aspiration and hard work to enable you to fulfil your
dreams. The audience were also wowed by a
performance of the recently formed band ‘Encrypted
Minds’ who played their new track ‘Bacon
Hallucinations’ with great gusto! Thank-you to all
parents and carers who came along to support the
event – you helped to create a fantastic atmosphere
and a really enjoyable evening.
Next week we look forward to meeting our new Year
7 students on induction day and visiting our Year 10
students on their work experience placements. ‘Good
luck Year 10’, I hope you really enjoy your work
placements and look forward to hearing all about
them in the last week of term.

AVS BAKE-OFF
Students from all year groups recently had the
opportunity to put their baking skills to the test
and enter our themed House Bake-Off
Competition.
The criteria for
the competition
meant that each
cake had to
have a sporting
flavour
and
represent either
the European
Football
Championship,
currently being
held in France,
or the Rio 2016
Olympic Games. In addition each cake entered
into the competition had to reflect at least one of
the British Values as identified by the Department
of Education, which include: democracy,
tolerance, the rule of law, mutual respect and
individual liberty.
A high number of entries were submitted by
students and staff, from all four of our houses.
The overall competition winner was Apollo
House’s Kuba Kucharczyk who created a well
decorated football themed cake. In addition Year
8 student Will Padun was highly commended for
his effort. Slices of cake were sold for the House
charities with the proceeds going to Zoe’s Place,
Warwickshire Air Ambulance, Myton Hospice and
Teenage Cancer Trust.
A brilliant effort made by all!
