MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD TEACHER
Dear Parents and Carers
The dark days of January are reputed to be one of the most depressing times of the year and I ’ m afraid that this week I need to ask for your support with a couple of issues which have made me feel the need to grumble over the last few days .
At Avon Valley we are very proud of the positive working relationships that we build with our students , but there are certain things that can cause those to be stressed right from the beginning of the day . Our uniform policy clearly states what is acceptable school wear and I am increasingly irritated by students wearing hoodies to school and then around the building either under , or over their blazers . The uniform policy states that students can wear jumpers or coats but hoodies are not on the list and are inappropriate for school . Confronting a student about their uniform tends to get the day off to a bad start , so please make sure your child is among the overwhelming majority of students who come to school smartly dressed in the correct uniform – and wearing shoes , not trainers !

Inside This Issue

I ’ d also like to take this opportunity to remind you about our mobile phone policy which is simple : they should be switched off and in bags . A few students seem to think they are the exception to this rule and end up having their phones confiscated as a result . Please help us get this message across . If you need to get information to your child , please call 01788 542355 to talk to the main school reception as phoning or texting them during the day may well lead to your child being sanctioned . It is common knowledge that frequently checking your screen reduces concentration and takes children ’ s minds off what is going on in the classroom . In addition , interacting with social media is completely inappropriate during the school day . Adhering to the policy will help us to avoid unnecessary confrontation and ensure that students can focus on the core purpose of attending school : gaining a balanced education which will allow them to move on to the next stage of their lives .
Thank you as always for your ongoing support .
