YEAR 9
The three classes in Year 9 have produced group / paired presentations on a chosen business to conclude last term ’ s work . I was delighted by how well the students had applied their classroom theory based knowledge to ‘ real life ’ examples .
This half term students are learning about ‘ People in Business ’; they will look at the role and function of Human Resources , Trade Unions , Employment laws and Business communication .
YEAR 10
Students on the BTEC Business course have now completed their Unit 3 work on Branding and have now progressed to Unit 2 which focuses upon Business Finance . In lessons , students will be gaining information in order to revise for an online exam which will take place in approx . 6 weeks .
The GCSE Applied Business students are coming towards the end of their first unit of work and have been very diligent and driven in their approach . Students are currently investigating the aims and objectives of the Cadbury organisation and will shortly undertake a controlled assessment task which will conclude their first unit of work .
YEAR 11
Prior to the Christmas break , students undertook their second PPE ( mock exam ) for the course . I was delighted by the students ’ performance on this exam as 79 % had improved their grade on this component of the GCSE Applied course . In addition to this , 12 students achieved either an A or A * grade on the second exam . I am very encouraged by the progress students are making .
The three classes are still working on their controlled assessment and have recently visited La Casa Loco Mexican restaurant in Rugby Town centre . Students visited the business in order to gain valuable knowledge / information which is required to compare a small independent business against a larger company , Cadbury . Whilst at the local restaurant , students sampled Mexican food from the menu and had time to discuss the company ’ s business operations with both the owner and the manager .
