At Avon Valley, we believe in giving students the best possible chance to succeed. This means that we are looking at ways to promote personal development as well as developing students academically. Employers are not only looking for good grades, but also for personal qualities, and so, it is important to encourage our students to work on developing these life skills. Back in October, year 8s were introduced to the PiXL Edge. This is an award that is designed to encourage the development of 5 personal attributes: Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative, and Communication (The “LORIC”). Students have been set the goal of completing two tasks in each attribute (10 tasks in total) that demonstrate these key skills. For example, students could complete a task of “Captain a sports team” to demonstrate Leadership skills or “Perform an acting role for a school perfor- mance” to demonstrate Communication skills. In order to achieve the PiXL Edge award, students are required to log their activities on the PiXL Edge website, provide evidence of completing each task and then write up a short evaluation of how each activity has developed their attributes. Upon the successful completion of all ten tasks, the award will be issued. At Avon Valley, we believe in the value of the PiXL Edge. We strongly encourage all students in year 8 to complete the award, so here’s how you can help:  Talk to you son/daughter about the increased employability that comes with the award.  Ask your son/daughter to show you their PiXL Edge account and how much they have completed.  Search the activity database with your son/daughter to see if there are any activities that you could complete at home or in local clubs and societies.  Help your son/daughter write up their evaluations at home, ensuring that they focus on how their attributes have been developed. Your son/daughter will have been given their login details in October but, if they have lost their login details, or if they encounter any other problems along the way, they should speak to their tutors, or speak to Mr Patton, the school’s Lead Edge Coordinator.
