Times Table Rock Stars has arrived at Avon Valley School !

This term saw the launch of Times Table Rock Stars to students at school . It is a sad fact that many students do not know their times tables off by heart , and not having this basic building block causes difficulties in problem solving later on with maths being made more difficult than it needs to be . Times Table Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice . Each week teachers can get students to concentrate on different times tables with a view to consolidation at the end of a set period of time . Your child can play this at school or home to improve their speed and recall .
If you child has not been introduced to this amazing programme yet then they will be in the New Year .

MOCK CAREERS INTERVIEWS

At The Avon Valley School , we are committed to ensuring that students leaving our school are prepared for the world of work . Mock interviews assist in developing the skills and qualities needed by young people for their career planning and management . A mock interview can provide a realistic experience for students and give employers an insight into education .
On the 20 th and 21 st November all Year 11 students ( over 200 ) took part in a mock interview . To try and ensure that students experience a realistic interview process local employers , educational providers and school governors volunteered to take the role of interviewers . To prepare for the mock interview , students were asked to complete a full CV to take along with them .
Students were allocated a time slot for their interview which took place in the school library . During the interview the students were asked a series of questions , which many students found quite daunting as this was their first experience of a formal interview . The interviewers then gave the students written feedback based on their performance and CV , along with interview tips for the future .
The mock interviews were a resounding success with positive feedback on the overall quality of the interviews and CV . We are immensely grateful for all the businesses , governors and educational providers who gave up their time to help our student ’ s develop their employability skills as well as input from St Gobain who gave us an insight into what they would look for when interviewing .
