GEOGRAPHY
Year 11 students have worked extremely
hard in their geography lessons this year and
they have just one unit of work (Tectonics)
left before their course content is
complete. Year 9 and 10 have settled into
their GCSE studies and are coping well with
the demands of the new GCSE specifications.
Students in Year 7 and 8 are developing new
skills and learning new knowledge in geography.
Year 8 students are currently learning about the
impacts of tectonic activity and Year 7 are finding
out about the UK.
Year 7 students were asked to reflect upon their year so
far and were keen to share their thoughts:
“Geography in Year 7 is fun. I’ve find out about different
jobs in different parts of the UK and I now know where you can
earn the highest wages! I now know about the continents of the
world and can also do grid references, so now, I can’t get lost!” Elijah
“To be fair geography was not how I expected it to be. I thought that geography was only about nature,
but I soon discovered that it was about much more than the environment. So far, I have learnt how to
read and use the key on maps. Geography has also shown me how easy it is to have misconceptions
about the wealth of countries around the world-I look forward to learning more!” Sahara
“Geography was not what I thought it would be, it made me realise that it is much more than maps of
the world. It’s about where people work and live; it has also made me realise that everything is linked
to geography.” Paige
MODERN FOREIGN
LANGUAGES
Year 11 students have been working really hard preparing for their Mock exams and overall we have had
some pleasing results. The Languages Faculty is looking forward to sharing these with students in January.
The first round of Year 7 homework projects were due in this week, with a number of students producing some
fantastic work, earning themselves lots of house points.
The annual KS3 French trip will be taking place in June 2017. Places are still available, so if your child is
interested please do not hesitate to contact Miss Benvenuto or Mrs Adamou in the Languages department.
January will see the launch of the next MFL competition, details to be revealed in the New Year.
