Year 10 Year 10 students have now sat two past papers to assess their strengths, areas for development and current grade. These have been gone through in class and returned to them. They should have brought the papers home to discuss with parents and also to use for revision purposes. The next assessment for Year 10 will be in the summer term and will again be a new style practice calculator paper. All students will be required to provide their own scientific calculator as they should do for every lesson. Having their own calculators in class is hugely beneficial as they can then become familiar with all of its functions and modes. If you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Extra help continues to be available every Monday and Wednesday mornings and after school on a Thursday. All students will need to continue to revise and focus in all lessons, complete any homework set to the best of their ability and make sure that they are properly equipped. The next 17 months will soon fly past! Year 11 Year 11 students have now all sat their mock exams and will be bringing the papers home after Christmas. They will then know their predicted grade and what they need to do to achieve that or even better. It will then be heads down and lots of hard work until May when the real examinations start. We will have another set of mocks in March to reassess where we are at and what the priorities are for the final revision slog. Please do continue to help us to remind students that the next few months will go by incredibly fast and that it will be worth all the hard work in the long run. If you have any questions at any time regarding maths please do not hesitate to get in touch. Extra maths continues to be available during registration on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.30am and after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Year 11, it is now heads down and lots of hard work until May when the real examinations start. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all, Debbie Tyas and the Maths team. [email protected] Please remember that we sell scientific calculators, revision guides and a range of other school equipment in school every day at reasonable costs or via pupil premium. NATIONAL CITIZEN SERVICE Opportunities for Year 11 students In August this year, twenty six Year 11 students from Avon Valley, participated in a three week scheme run by the National Citizenship Service. Week one was spent at an activity centre meeting other like-minded young adults, and working as a team to complete adrenaline-fuelled challenges such as: rock climbing, canoeing, hiking and archery. Week two was spent in a university-style environment where students developed confidence, leadership, communication and life skills to boost their CV or UCAS personal statement. The final week was spent creating and delivering a social action project in the local area. The NCS are offering the same opportunity to the current Year 11, in January 2017.
