History
Both Key Stages 3 and 4 have made a very good start in their history lessons this year . Students have already produced some excellent work including some inspirational learning posters on the Black Death and Crime and Punishment in the Victorian era . These are now adorning the wall in SS1 .
Year 7 are currently focussing on core history skills before moving on to learn about the Middle Ages .
Year 8 are wrestling with the evidence of Jack the Ripper in an investigation to find out who he really was .
Year 10 have begun the year with a detailed study of Medicine in Britain , starting with the Black Death . Throughout this year they will continue to look at medicine culminating with the impact of the First World War on Medicine . Then they will look at the early part of Queen Elizabeth I ’ s reign .
Year 9 have begun their GCSE with an overview of medicine in Britain from 1250 to the present day . They have just looked at how Edward Jenner used cows to combat the worst disease of the 18 th and 19 th centuries , Smallpox .
Year 11 are starting their final year of the GCSE course by looking at Weimar and Nazi Germany . This complex study has already seen them work out how long they could survive hyperinflation and what they would do with very large bundles of useless money . Once the topic of Germany is finished they will complete their GCSE course with a study of the Cold War which will help them understand why two powerful nations would threaten each other with nuclear destruction .
