So far, they have been looking at the use of Internet, its benefits and some of the challenges we may face as we use the Internet every day. During the rest of the term they are going to be looking at the principles of computing: in this unit they will look at hardware, software, storage device, input and output devices. They will have the opportunity to look under the hood of a computer to gain a basic understanding of how each part contributes to the functioning of the computer. Year 8: Our Year 8s have started looking at the how computers represent information. They will learn to count like a computer using binary, hexadecimal number systems. They will have a chance at look at how a computer actually represents an image, records and stores sound and how text is stored in English and many other languages in the world. Year 9, 10 & 11: Year 9, 10 and 11 Students who have chosen Computer Science are going to spend term 1 learning to program in python and some of the basic principles of Computer Science. Year 11s will be working on their controlled assessment programing task. Year 9s and Year 10s who opted for ICT, have started working on a brand new course called CiDA – Certificate in Digital Application. During this term students will begin the Controlled Assessment Unit 1 project. It is a very interesting course as students have an opportunity to learn and develop their creative skills; these skills will enable them to design web based and multimedia products. We are very excited to run this course and we hope that the students will enjoy the creative opportunities that this course offers. Revision Revision Revision We are running an after school session for ICT and Computer Science in IT2 and IT5. We would like to encourage Year 10s and 11 to come in and revise.
