Day 3, Wednesday 19 June 2019: Lemosho Route (Trek Day 2) This morning after breakfast, we will embark on our trek through the forest. However, we will soon leave this lush ecosystem behind as we traverse along a steep track into a zone of giant heather and volcanic rock. This is a full and challenging day, as we ascend through the lush rolling hills below the Shira Plateau. Shira is the third of Kilimanjaro’s volcanic cones, and is filled with the lava flow from Kibo. Its rim has eroded and been blasted away by weather and volcanic action. The day finishes with a gradual climb to Shira 2 Camp. Day 4, Thursday 20 June 2019: Lemosho Route (Trek Day 3) This morning after breakfast, we climb today steadily up and over the expansive ridgelines of high desert to Lava Tower. The trek to the base of Lava Tower is about 4 hours. This tower is a 300-foot high volcanic plug, and if time and energy permits, we can scramble to the top of Lava Tower for fabulous panoramic views. From Lava Tower, we then begin our steep descent into the Barranco Valley, passing large flowering plants, the senecios, which actually look like trees. This section is good practice for our descent from the summit in a few days time and will take 1-2 hours. Although we will end your day at almost the same elevation as first started, today is very important for acclimatisation and will help our bodies prepare for summit day. Barranco Camp is located in a beautiful, sheltered valley below the imposing Barranco Wall. Together to Give: Kilimanjaro Trek 2019: Information Pack © 2018 Inspired Adventures. All Rights Reserved.
