St. Sarkis Cathedral is within a five-minute walking distance from the mosque. It is one of the best models of Armenian monastery architecture and the seat of the Araratian Patriarchal Diocese. The church is located on the left bank of the Hrazdan River, where a fascinating view opens onto the Hrazdan Canyon and the Victory Bridge.

The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the holiday of St. Sarkis, the patron of youth and those in love. During the reign of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (306-337), St. Sarkis was appointed the General Governor of the Cappadocia province bordering Armenia. When Emperor Julianus the Betrayer (360-363) began prosecuting Christians, St. Sarkis and his son Martyros went to Armenia, and King Tiran of Armenia accepted them.
