History of

Yerevan

Yerevan is one of the oldest cities in the world. Founded in 782 BC, its history dates back to the Urartian times. Located in the Armenian Highland, Yerevan has since then become a clash point of different civilizations, and was conquered numerous times by Arabs, Seljuks, Mongols, Turks, Persians, and Russians. It also witnessed devastating earthquakes and other natural disasters. It was destroyed and rebuilt many times, and yet it was continuously inhabited since its foundation. Today, Yerevan appears to its visitors as a growing modern city that has preserved the best traditions of its ancient history.
