Yerevan Basics :

Armenia has been famous for its winemaking traditions since ancient times. The oldest winery dating back more than 6000 years was discovered in Armenia in 2011

during excavations in the Areni region. Discoveries by the archeologists prove that Armenia was the birthplace of grape growing and winemaking. The best fields of native grape sorts are located in the Ararat Valley and Vayots Dzor province, which are situated 800-1300 m (2,625-4,265 ft) above sea level, on hilly lands. Today unique varieties of grape grow in Armenia the origin of which dates back 1000 years. The wine made of these oldest grape varieties differ by their smell and quality from the wines made of widespread grapes from rest of the world. Armenian pomegranate wines are also worth trying. Well known Armenian contemporary wine producers are Armenia Wine and Vedi Alco

companies. The former initiated the high quality wine collection production named Armenia, and the later presents Areni, Vivat Armenia, Kharji, Hayk and other products.
