World News in Review Back-to-school survey finds 50% of children with special needs are bullied at school 50% of parents reported that their special needs child has been bullied at least once on the way to school or at school, and almost 80% of parents of children with special needs, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and Down syndrome, worry that their child will experience bullying at some point. This is according to a recent survey by AngelSense, a GPS-based community platform creating a safer world for children with special needs. HMRC and Department for Work and Pensions Provide Work experience for young people with autism HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have offered young people with autism work experience as part of an ‘Insight Programme’ developed in partnership with Ambitious about Autism. The scheme, which ran from Monday 29 June – Friday 10 July, looked at addressing the fact that 85% of adults with autism are not in full time paid employment Two Day International Symposium Announced Research Research Autism is delighted to be launching its biggest conference to date, a two-day international research symposium featuring a number of world-renowned speakers. Looking Forward Looking Back: The Janus View of Autism is the latest in the Lorna Wing Conference Series, and will be held on 25 and 26 November 2015 at the prestigious Prince Phillip House in London. The conference will seek to review progress in the field of autism, as well as pay homage to Lorna Wing, a founding trustee of Research Autism, who sadly died last year. 11
