from different sources, including profes-
sional, academic, and personal experiences, combin-
ing almost 20 years of professional work with fam-
ilies with children with various exceptional needs
and over 11 years of experience as a mother to a
young man living on the autism spectrum. This piece
describes a personal and professional journey of the
author going from denial, guilt, and shame to accep-
tance, empowerment, and public sharing. Topics in

identifying strengths and unique differences, mind-
set shifting practice, tools to being a better listener,
and additional tools to help towards success on the
journey to autism acceptance.
Dr. Alisha Griffith is the proud mother of Zachary, her
bright and extraordinary son, who is on the autism
spectrum. She is also a trained educator, speech-lan-
guage pathologist, and audiologist for more than
20 years. A best-selling author, maverick for change,
transformational speaker, and autism parent ignite
coach, she boldly launched her own autism par-
ent development program in 2015. Dr. Griffith also
launched two other programs, So Smart Kids, Inc.,
and Smart Fit Fam., dedicated to children and fam-
ilies on the spectrum learning more about wellness,
