studies and social sciences. With the experience of
nearly 20 years in providing student support, we are
proud of our track record in producing well-rounded
young professionals to fill the many stimulating
career opportunities in the water industry.
Among the special initiatives WaterRA provides are
an Industry Mentor to share their experience and
knowledge with Masters and PhD students. Another
relatively new initiative – the Water Research Degree
for industry Member Employees – encourages
member organisations to support employees to
undertake part-time study in an undergraduate or
postgraduate (Masters) program which addresses an
industry need.
Technical resources
WaterRA is the custodian of an extensive body of
research outputs from the CRC WQT up to current
projects. A recent series of commissioned studies
has reminded us of the significant impact of much
of this work and also of the perseverance required,
and long lead times involved, in achieving change.
Most of the CRC WQT legacy documents are freely
accessible, however new WaterRA reports are
available to Member organisations only in the first
instance. WaterRA recently signed an agreement
with IWA Publishing to provide research reports for
sale, and the first tranche of reports has been sent.
Whilst it is not anticipated to deliver a huge income
stream, we expect to derive benefit for the company
and its member organisations from the international
profile of the IWA Publishing arm.
A keystone publication owned by WaterRA is Health
Stream (1995 – ). This unique public health bulletin
is 100% pertinent to the water industry. Health
Stream is one of the most widely read publications
produced by WaterRA. Although public health
bulletins are produced by a number of State Health
departments, these publications are local and not
specifically water focussed. Four issues, produced
each year by Martha Sinclair and Pam Hayes from
Monash University, are read in 96 countries around
the world.
Measuring Success
WaterRA has four strategic pillars underpinning its
operations. They are building industry capability,
advocating for safe water on the national agenda,
promoting effective collaboration and generating
scientific evidence to inform good decision-making
and practice. These pillars are predominantly delivered
