In today’s world of security, integrated security technology solutions are becoming the norm as organisations demand seamless and expect more cost effective solutions. Whereas in the past security systems were often viewed as a disparate collection of ad hoc elements, they are now viewed as an integral and vital component of any organisation. To meet this demand the security industry has harnessed rapid technological developments and convergence to provide an array of sophisticated integrated security solutions. Major access control and security management solutions providers have also migrated into the Internet Protocol (IP) world to optimise the capabilities within these systems. As a result, many organisations now use a head end platform to integrate various security subsystems, Govlink I Issue 1 2014 including visitor management, access control, video surveillance, intrusion and communications such as intercom and mass notification technology. These systems, which offer interoperability with technology from several third-party vendors, can also integrate with existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
