MINOR INFRASTRUCTURE
The Opening Ceremony was a celebration of Australia’s
culture and heritage, with the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull,
Prime Minister of Australia, calling the Congress a
‘landmark’ event.

first Bosch highly autonomous car demonstration
which delegates flocked to see.
Over the next five days, delegates from 73 countries
heard 663 speakers in 236 sessions at the Melbourne
Convention Centre.
Among the 278 exhibiting organisations in the
Melbourne Exhibition Centre, a number of partnerships
and initiatives were announced including the South
Australia Government’s $10 million investment into
connected, autonomous car technology, and US
company Peloton Technology and the Australian
Driverless Vehicle Initiative (ADVI) announcing an
industry partnership to explore truck platooning safety
and fuel efficiency.
Delegates visited Melbourne’s traffic and transport
network centres on 17 technical tours covering all
modes of transport and communication hubs; and
3,618 vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure
demonstrations were experienced from the MCEC
car park, along Clarendon Street’s ‘Connected Urban
Melbourne-based warehouse management system
Microlistics announced a significant contract with
Linfox Asia, and transport and field services specialist
Smart Trans signed a contract to manage the assets
and customer delivery requirements of one of the city’s
leading landscape and garden suppliers.
The Hon Luke Donnellan, Victorian Government Minister
for Roads and Road Safety and Minister for Port,
and the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Melbourne,
Robert Doyle also made addresses before a Keynote
presentation by Transurban CEO Scott Charlton.
